A German research institute has compared employment in occupations that are affected by AI to different degrees. Overall, there is no loss of jobs, and among employees aged 30 and over, affected occupations even developed better. Only among those under 30 is a slight decline emerging, which is not yet statistically confirmed. The researchers name the weak economy as the more important cause.
What stands out is where the signal appears: in manufacturing and in occupations without a university degree. That is where many skilled workers start their careers.
We advise companies to deliberately keep entry-level positions when introducing AI and to redesign the tasks. When software prepares routine work, trainees check and clarify the results and learn the process along the way.
