Under German coordination, 19 EU member states have notified a joint funding project for industrial AI. More than ten billion euros of investment are planned across over 150 individual projects, from manufacturing and robotics to energy. Operational work is due to start in spring 2027.
The focus is not on language models but on machine, process and production data. Whoever turns such data into shared formats will shape future applications and the rules of exchange along the supply chain.
As a non-member, Switzerland does not take part. For Swiss suppliers whose customers are based in neighbouring countries, the topic still matters. We advise linking machine data with order and material information, talking early with key customers about their data requirements, and relying on open standards for data exchange.
