A European cloud association has newly flagged SAP in its competition review. The trigger is a set of rules under which AI agents from other vendors may no longer work directly with the ERP interfaces. Only in-house building blocks are permitted, and their prices from 2027 onwards have not been published.
From an operations point of view, controlled access makes sense. An agent decides for itself which queries to run and when to post. Without clear permissions and logging, load peaks and wrong postings follow that nobody planned for. At the same time, whoever provides the only permitted route also sets its price.
For mid-sized companies with a clean cloud standard, this is mainly a planning task. We recommend first listing which tools already access the ERP today. New agents should only be built on permitted routes. And the terms for the AI components belong in the next contract renewal rather than waiting for a later price list.
